Inioluwa Afolabi

Inioluwa Afolabi is a Gates Cambridge Scholar pursuing a PhD degree in computational chemistry in the ICE group, here, at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on using state-of-the-art computer simulation approaches to discover and understand the properties of next generation materials for carbon capture.

Inioluwa is passionate about mentoring upcoming generations about careers in STEM and how to prepare a strong application for postgraduate research funding opportunities overseas.

She is currently the Cambridge African Society Mentorship (CAMP) co-chair, where she is overseeing the mentorship of 60 prospective African applicants who hope to apply for postgraduate degrees at Cambridge University.

Having benefited from excellent mentorship and Mastercard scholarship in the past, I see this initiative as an opportunity to give back and increase African representation within the halls of Cambridge.

Nathan Odiase

Nathan advances academic conversations around the strategic management of creative ecosystems. His research explores organisational style in the fashion industry and extensively examines the strategic decisions that impact stylistic choices. As part of his research, Nathan also investigates how creative identities are constructed and appraises the business development implications of creative judgments. 

Before starting his PhD, Nathan completed a Master of Philosophy in Innovation, Strategy & Organisation from the University of Cambridge, where Magdalene College awarded him the Standard Bank Africa Chairman’s Scholarship. He was awarded the prestigious Mandela Rhodes Scholarship that funded his Master of Social Science Degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of Lagos, where he developed foundational skills in utilising Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis for Qualitative Research.

Nathan is inspired to contribute toward the business development of creative industries, including the arts, media, fashion, and photography. As his academic career evolves, he also hopes to facilitate the digital innovation and agility of small and medium scale enterprises.

Enoch Alex

I'm an inquisitive researcher with a foundation in genetics. My drive goes beyond mere scientific understanding; I am dedicated to translating this knowledge into tangible societal benefits. My research focuses on elucidating the genetic underpinnings of canine obesity, prioritising and validating plausible causal variants and pathways that hold relevance to human obesity.

The insights gained will potentially uncover novel therapeutic targets for treating and preventing obesity in both dogs and humans, bridging the gap between veterinary and human medicine and providing a comprehensive perspective on a growing health concern. Furthermore, as someone who believes that the outcomes of genetic research should be accessible and relevant to all, regardless of ethnicity or regional background, I am deeply committed to promoting equity and diversity within the field of genomics.
